I Thought It Would Last

You, me I thought would last, but our love blossomed all so fast, We thought we wanted each other yet you longed for another. You, I wanted, but I thought I had to raise you, but nothing I said ever fazed you. You rebelled against our love and out grew me, all the time I never knew you were trying to school me. I wore you down until you came around, not giving you time to heal from the last ordeal. The relationship we had was just a fad, because you never intended to make me your lad. If I knew just what it took, our love could've been a story book. If it's fast it won't last, but if it's slow we both will grow. Yes, "I thought it would last", but when you left me high and dry, I knew I'd heard our last goodbye. Now I spend time thinking, without even blinking, staring and wondering what tomorrow will bring. I've since moved on, with a valued lesson now that I'm over this depression, "If it's fast it can last, just slow it down and you might stick around".
