Poems to Say Goodbye

I've been writing a lot of poems to say goodbye recently.

Poems about sad love, some of what I think are the best love poems, and even engagement poems envisioning the way I wanted to propose to my girl.

I received an unexpected call from her today saying that her return to what she thought she wanted hadn't cured her unhappiness. And, that although a long road is in front of both of us, for me not to let go ~ that our dream is still alive ~ and that we're going to make it happen.

It was a beautiful, two-hour long conversation that is so typical of how we share every thought and emotion and always have, and always will.

If it sounds like I'm pouring out my heart, I'm okay with that.

Anyway, I thought I'd write something other than poems to say goodybe. And, I'll break from routine and write on my laptop this time rather than my notebook.

A Poem to Say Hello...

Many times my heart would flutter
Just from hearing the sound of your voice
When I think of you, I can't help my smile
My face doesn't give me that much choice
I wasn't sure I'd hear from you
Or that we'd finish this marathon race
With bumps and bruises and potholes, too
All throwing us out of place
To know that you're with him right now crushes my heart and mind
But to know that our teamwork isn't through is what I was searching to find
Although our journey's far from through
And it feels like we're stuck in time
Time is on our side now
And now I know that you'll soon be mine
Whether it's a year or two
My promises still ring true
I will never to lie to you
I promise my heart's with you
So when you break away from there
When you've thrown away your fears
I'll be the one still standing here
Rooting for you with all my cheers
I can't believe how much you Love
Or that I'm worthy, too
I've been waiting my whole life
To share with a girl like you
